VersaLogic's Cougar
(Click for details)
VersaLogic announced the Cougar SBC in April. Equipped with a 500MHz Geode LX, the board offers dual Ethernet ports, operates fanlessly, draws under five Watts, and features high resistance to mechanical and thermal shock, says VersaLogic. Complying with the PC/104-Plus form-factor, the board targets military, avionics, and medical applications. For more information, please see our earlier coverage, here.
The Python ships in a 5.8 x 8.0-inch (146 x 203 mm) EBX form-factor, and is aimed at industrial control and data acquisition applications. The SBC provides a Geode LX 800 with 800MHz clock speed, and up to 1GB of 333MHz DDR RAM. Like the Cougar, it offers dual Ethernet ports, and also provides four USB 2.0 ports, four COM ports, 32 lines of digital I/O, eight 12-bit analog channels, and three pulse width modulation (PWM) outputs, says VersaLogic. The board supports displays with up to 1600 x 1200 resolution and 32-bit color, and comes with an 18/24-bit LVDS interface, says the company.
The Python includes VersaLogic's new SPX interface, which is said to be based on Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) signaling. SPX modules provide "an inexpensive solution for additional I/O including analog, digital, CANbus, relay switching, and more," says VersaLogic. More information on the Python can be found on our sister site WindowsForDevices, here.

The new DEV-CD-L6 BSP supports both boards with a bootable LiveCD loaded with Debian Linux 4.0 (etch/stable) and Linux kernel 2.6.25-5. Stocked with drivers for the Ethernet, audio, video, USB, and serial components found on the Cougar and Python, the CD offers three stable images. It also offers an Advanced User Package (AUP), which is said to contain kernel sources, a customized config file, and driver patches for users who wish to run a different Linux distribution. The included Debian Linux OS can be employed for both development purposes, as well as for use as the base OS in target systems.
Availability
The DEV-CD-L6 BSP is available for download to qualified applicants, says VersaLogic. More information may be found here.
