Komodo supports Linux, Mac, and Windows hosts. It includes a graphical debugger, along with a built-in rendering engine for code testing. The engine is based on Mozilla 1.9, which also underpins Firefox 3.0, according to the company. Featured language support includes Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, Tcl, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, XML, RHTML, Template-Toolkit, HTML-Smarty, and Django.

The previous Komodo IDE 4.0 release two years ago mainly added "Web 2.0" features, such as asynchronous Javascript and XML (AJAX), an increasingly popular technology in device interfaces since it has the potential to reduce polling in remote sensing and other embedded applications. AJAX also offloads some processing from low-powered devices to the client interface.
Availability
Komodo IDE 5.0 is available now, priced at the temporarily reduced rate of $1,000 for five seats. It can be purchased online, here. Also available are ActivePerl and ActiveTCL Pro Studio versions, priced at $2,000 for five seats. A trial download (44MB) is also available.
