The largest embedded Linux conference has announced its venue and topic list for next year's event. Set for April 6-8, 2009, at San Francisco's Hotel Kabuki, the Consumer Electronics Linux Forum's fifth-annual Embedded Linux Conference directly precedes the Linux Foundation's Spring Collaboration Summit, Apr. 8-10.

Held last year in Mountain View, the 2008 ELC featured a keynote by Linux kernel maintainer Andrew Morton. It drew about 150, including many influential embedded Linux developers. A just-completed European event featured about 30 presentations, including keynotes from Harald Welte and Thomas Gleixner.

The ELC 2009 conference will be held at the Hotel Kabuki, and is open to the public. This year, ELC will be held directly prior to the Linux Foundation Spring Collaboration Summit (April 8-10), which also will be held in San Francisco.

ELC presentations should be of a technical nature, and should address the use of Linux in embedded systems, says CELF. Advertisements or sales pitches are not appropriate, says the group. The main focus is said to be consumer electronics, but presentations may cover use of Linux in other embedded devices, as long as the topic is of general relevance to most embedded developers.

Presentations are encouraged on the following topics:Audio, video, and graphics systems for embedded products
Security
System size
Bootup time
Meeting real-time constraints
Power management
Streaming media
Flash memory devices and filesystems
Technologies related to cell phones, digital set-top boxes, handheld devices, or other CE products
Development tools for embedded users
Use of Linux in actual products, practical experience, and war stories
Standards for CE productsMost presentation slots are 50 minutes long, including time for questions, says CELF. Potential presenters may submit a request to present a tutorial, which tend to be longer, interactive learning sessions. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 16.
